“This man was seized by the Jews and they were about to kill him, but I came with my troops and rescued him, for I had learned that he is a Roman citizen” (Acts 23:27 NIV). I paraphrase the commander, “it would not have mattered to me, nor my troops, if the protesters had killed or spared Paul, but that changed when I learnt of his Roman citizenship. On learning of his citizenship, I mobilized my troops to rescue him.”
Citizenship matters, it changes everything. You are a citizen of heaven, “but our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20 ). Not only that you are an ambassador for Christ – 2 Corinthians 5:20.
Which means if you are in trouble, heaven’s armies cannot stand unperturbed. If needed, a whole legion would be dispatched just for you. In fact, Jesus said in Matthew 26:53 said it could be up to 12 legions of angels – 72,000 angel soldiers!
These days people get the flack for acting entitled, but in this, you can. You are a citizen of heaven and entitled to heavenly troops. So the next time you may need to dust up on Psalm 91 for protection, declare your citizenship alongside, and in the heavenlies you will activate a host or two, maybe even more!
Remember, Paul had to say he was a Roman before things changed. A closed mouth is a closed destiny as the saying goes! Declaring your citizenship is your 911! I once heard someone expound Psalm 107:2 as “let the redeemed of the LORD say so”, he said, it is not enough to only know so, you must also say so!
When the hordes of hell come at you, go on ahead, act entitled, brandish your birthright, confess your citizenship. Then sit back and see how angels come rushing in.
