‘Remember’ Is Not The Opposite Of ‘Forget’. The Mystery of Divine Remembrance.

Read Time: 2 Minutes

But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.” Genesis 8:1 NIV

If Noah and all that were with him in the ark were the only creatures left on the earth after the flood, why then would God need to remember them? Here is why, unlike humans, remembrance on God’s terms bears no antonymic relationship with forgetfulness at all. In fact the Bible says “nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13 NIV).

The mystery of divine remembrance does not fit in the framework, we as humans may unwittingly want to construe it in. Oddly, most of the people, if not all the people the Bible says God remembered were folks he had ongoing dealings with. So how could he have forgotten them in the first place? This list includes Noah, Abraham, Lot, Rachel, The Israelites, Hannah and even Zachariah and Elizabeth in the New Testament.

This then is divine remembrance; it is but a technology of God’s self activation and engagement. Indicating God instigating specific steps, coordinating and executing benevolent action/s very often to the exclusive benefit of the entity being remembered. It is when God arises for you and often for you alone. It is akin to when the New Testament would say Jesus was moved with compassion. Which would often follow with him doing specific benevolent act/s to the benefit of the person or group he is moved with the compassion towards.

This year may you be a big beneficiary of divine remembrance.
