That One Time I Almost Corrected The Holy Spirit About The Bible!

Read Time: 2 Minutes

In Genesis 32‬, Jacob wrestled all night with an angel insisting that he won’t let the angel go unless he blesses him. Here is the twist though, much earlier in Gen. 30‬:43‬, the Bible had already declared him blessed, as “…exceedingly prosperous and came to own large flocks, and female and male servants, and camels and donkeys. ”

I had almost corrected the Holy Spirit that the fight came first, the prize won was the prosperity. Why? I am, maybe you are too, a part of a Christian generation that when we hear ‘God has blessed someone’, it is almost a given that it is a material resource that is being supposed. Having God should and must always equal having gold.

Does God bless with material riches? Preponderantly yes, based on Bible citations! However, Jacob and the angel incident teaches that God’s truest blessings aren’t always weighted in silver and gold. Foreshadowing Jesus in Luke‬ ‭16‬:‭11‬ who delineated worldly wealth as not qualified to be so called true riches. Same sentiment he expressed when he called the wealthy Laodicean church, that we would have called a ‘blessed‘ church today, as “wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.” (‭‭Rev. ‭3‬:‭17‬-‭18‬)

There are blessings beyond the rims and realms of material prosperity, may our generation find them! May you find them!

    Amen!
We desperately need a shift in this generation about this subject you have raised. This can only come from the renewal of our mind by God’s word. We have been erroneously taught to view God’s blessing from the material point.

Yes sir! May we go back to elevating and reemphasizing true riches alongside material prosperity!

    Amen.
Material wealth, for me, is just one of the physical manifestation of the blessings of God, when you follow some principles but the real blessing is knowing God and obeying him, the wealth that comes from this, Peace and Contentment, transcends material wealth.
And this reminds me of the old song, ‘You take the whole world and give me Jesus, I’m satisfied.👍

Absolutely! Being blessed by God is not weighed in gold and silver.Joseph was blessed while he was in Potiphar’s house and when he was in prison.
