I Would Have, But…

Joseph shared two dreams with his brothers. Aside from his brothers’ jealousy, and his father’s introspection, what else did you notice? Maybe you noticed that at both times, Joseph needed not interpret his dream to his brothers? The family got the accurate meaning pronto! Which would indicate that gift of dream interpretation was likely commonplace in the family?

May be you are one of those people who think you are just a mere bundle of nothing special or even nothing all? Maybe you have adapted to yourself the pop culture idiom “if not for bad luck, I would have none” to “if not for nothing-special skills, I would have none”? Can I, in God’s stead, essay a response to that notion? Remember the gift God used to lever up Joseph to the throne was nothing special in his family.

All that God had to do was to curate a situation where the peculiarities of Joseph’s ‘not so special in his family’ gift was in urgent demand! Orchestrating a temporary divine redundancy for all of Egypt’s dream interpreters. Much like what he did for Daniel when He threw a curveball to all of Nebuchadnezzar’s magicians.

Though you may not see it now but you are a bundle of worth and wealth! In the Bible God did use a bunch of good, semi-good, no-good at all and everything in between folks to do wonders.

David was such non entity in his family that his father and brothers completely forgot him when Samuel came to anoint a king. Gideon demurred when the angel called him a mighty warrior. The prophet’s wife told Elisha that she had “…nothing there at all,” … “except a small jar of olive oil”. “God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world — what is viewed as nothing — to bring to nothing what is viewed as something” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭28‬ ‭HCSB).

So stop the self disqualification. Still ongoing is God’s ‘who will go for us?’ summon. Can I plead with you to change your response from ‘I would have, but…’ to ‘here am I send me!’

“Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you …” (Col.‬ ‭1‬:‭12‬ ‭BSB). ‬‬God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called. God already has a big checkmark behind your name! Step up to the plate! Register for the course, write the blog/book, launch the podcast, begin the business, lay your hands on the sick, cast out demons, prophesy, start the ministry … “only let us live up to what we have already attained” (Philippians 3:16 NIV).
