Have You Ever Walked With An Angel?

‘They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him. ‘ Acts 12:10

Bible Passage: Acts 12:1-18 . Context: Peter’s Escape from Prison.

Have you ever walked with an angel? Or had any other supernatural experiences? Then you may probably understand the experience of Peter in this passage? Oh, what a thrill it would have been for Peter walking past the first and second guards! It gets even better, the iron gate leading to the city, opening by itself – surreal! He must have felt invincible. The Bible says he wasn’t even sure if the experience was a vision or not. It was too good to be true.

Maybe for you it wasn’t even a stroll with an angel or any supernatural one per se? However. it was a good experience, once in a lifetime, that you would love to recreate and relive everyday.  We have all had such good experiences.

Back to Peter, with no prior warning, just as surprisingly as the angel appeared, the Bible said “suddenly the angel left him”.

So, what do you do when the angel disappears? When the high of the experience is over? Like Peter, keep going in the direction the angel led you. Don’t abandon the journey! Don’t even wait there till the angel re-appears. Pray, hope and expect the angel to reappear but still keep going.

Please, don’t head back to the prison where the angel showed up in the first instance, that might be a risky gambit. We do not have any scriptural records of the Early Church ever recalling special sessions in the Upper Room because the Holy Ghost first came down there, nor on the Mount of Transfiguration where Moses and Elijah appeared, neither on Mount Olive where Jesus ascended. They understood that it is not so much about the place but the spiritual placement and empowerment they got from the encounters in those places. They heeded the Lord’s instruction to Gideon to “go in this thy might” (Judges‬ ‭6‬:‭14‬ ‭KJV‬‬).  Not long after they were referred to as “these that have turned the world upside down” (Acts 17:6 KJV).

My point, don’t always wait or live for the high. While It is good and desirable to pray because you feel the Spirit but don’t always wait till you feel the Spirit before you pray – pray! Study your Bible whether you feel like it or not! The Spirit is always with you whether you feel him or not. Much like the angel was still with Peter even when Peter no longer saw him.

Stay true and committed to your spouse whether you still feel the butterflies in your tummy or not. Get the task done no matter how you feel about it. Apostle Paul told Timothy about preaching the word “be instant in season, out of season;” (2 Timothy 4:2 KJV), that is an advice that is applicable to many more aspects of life aside preaching.

When the angel leaves, keep walking! He is still with you whether you see him or not!

    Thanks for sharing MOG!

I am reminded of 2 Corinthians 5:7- For we walk by faith , not by sight. It can feel incredibly challenging when the angel leaves or the feel good moments seem to have ended…. but, thank God for Jesus, He did not leave us without a Helper.
