“When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.” Mark 5:15 NIV.
“He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.” Mark 5:41, 43 NIV
Let me start with a question; don’t the phrase “in his right mind” strike a chord in you, leave you in awe? Doesn’t it make you appreciate the magnitude of the transformation that Jesus can bring? If you read the passage and contrast the before and after his encounter with Jesus, I believe there is no way one won’t be awestruck by the power of Jesus again and again.
However, right before ‘in his right mind’ phrase, the Bible threw in another descriptive phrase “, sitting there, dressed.” Dressed? Why does that matter? Here; you see if Jesus had healed him and he was sitting there naked, no one would have noticed, he had always been naked anyways, it would have been no big deal at all. Not with Jesus though, not with Jesus.
Upon healing the demonized mad man, he ensured that he was dressed. Not only did he restore his sanity, he also cared about his dignity. Jesus cares not only about the big stuff but the little stuff too – the mundane.
He is detailed, comprehensive and complete in His attention. If he meets us possessed, tormented, demented, undressed and naked, he doesn’t cast out the demons and leave us there unclothed. He isn’t too busy ridding us of demons to forget we are unclothed. If he raises us from the dead, he will still make sure we get dinner. When he fixes the bigger stuff he also comes for the smaller ones, he doesn’t leave them unattended. He leaves no stones unturned, he is holistic in his care.
Didn’t Jesus say your Heavenly Father clothes the lilies? When we say Jesus cares, that may sound like a cliché, he does – totally he does!
