Bible Passage: Isaiah 6 :1-13
Focus Verse: ”Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.’ Isaiah 6:2 NIV

‘So Red Bull Doesn’t Actually Give You Wings’ was the title of an October 9th, 2014 BBC article. It was a reporting on the lawsuit that forced Red Bull GmbH to pay a 13M USD settlement for false advertising for their “Red Bull gives you wings” sloganeering. A tagline they still use till today, by the way!
This matter is of course, of a different kind of wings, the wings of the Seraphim that Isaiah saw in his throne room encounter.
When we think of wings; we do, and rightly so, think of flying. We say of children “give them wings so they can fly.” However, four out of six of the wings of the Seraphim had nothing at all to do with flying. Almost 70% of their wings capacity are of no aerodynamics functionalities whatsoever!
Here lies one of the biggest problems of many in our world and in Christendom today. Especially, the gifted ones; the problem of accuracy in utilization and maximization of their gifting, purposes and calling.
If an individual is well versed in the scriptures, even more so, if s/he has the ability to explain the bible better than most, quickly we say s/he is a Bible teacher, we even sometimes go as far as calling them pastors. It is possible s/he is a teacher, quite possible s/he is not. It could be that the scripture well-versedness is an apparatus for another ministry office entirely. To prod even further, what gives us the impression that God doesn’t want Christian lawyers, doctors, businesspersons, sportspeople etc in the marketplace that are as well versed in the scriptures as a Bible teacher?
If God bequeaths an individual with financial resources and s/he is able to support missions and ministries. We are apt to say such an individual has been called as a giver to the kingdom cause, which often is true. However, God may also be calling him or her to ministry/missions beyond just giving.
Everyone that can sing has been called to the singing ministry! Every Christian that is bold in sharing his/her faith is called to be an evangelist or a missionary. So, the list goes on.
This ought always not to be, not every wing is meant for flying, there are wings meant for covering – other purposes.
This principle applies to even bigger contexts; for example, not all relationships and/or acquaintances are created equal. Jesus had the multitude, the 70, 12, 3 and even the 1 – John the Beloved, that he handed over his mother to.
Are you using all your wings for the same purpose, trying to fly with them all? Are you using your gifting and graces the naturally expected way, as everyone else would use them? Which may be just fine. However, just be sure that God isn’t calling you to something different, to break out of the box. Especially if you are finding it hard to take off.
The Seraphim; herein, teach you, teach me, that not all wings are meant for flying! May the Lord endow us with discernment and accuracy especially if he is calling us to do something out of the norm!

I appreciate the depth of knowledge you have in scripture, and your ability to see things from a different perspective than most readers of the bible.
May we all have the spirit of discernment to know which of our wings are meant for flying and the ones to be used for other purposes.
May the auction to function in this ministry multiply over you, and may you grow stronger and reach further in Jesus name.
Shalom!
Amen! Thanks for your kind words, appreciated. Blessings
