But, Why Me?

Read Time: 2 Minutes

But Joseph said, “Far be it from me to do such a thing! Only the man who was found to have the cup will become my slave...” Genesis‬ ‭44‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬.

Benjamin stood speechless contemplating the dark prospect of being a slave to the Prime Minister of Egypt. All for a cup he did not steal. Probably thinking ‘’why me, this is so unfair, why did God let this happen to me?’’ Neither him, nor any of his brothers knew that it was all a set up for a greater outcome.

For some, the reason for which you are in the predicament you are in, especially the one/s you may feel you did nothing to deserve, and you keep saying ‘why me’, may be because you are being divinely set up. Joseph himself must have said many ‘why me’ not knowing that every one of those why-me-situations pushed him closer to the palace.

For all problems, resolutions should be sought. There are some problems, if not all, that have divine components to them. There are even specific ones that may seem to defy all reason, all logic, all solutions – often those are divine set-ups.

The continuing childlessness of Sarah, Hannah and Elizabeth was not because God did not hear their prayers. It is rather because their wombs were being prepared to carry sons of destiny. Job’s illogical suffering left him with double for his trouble and more importantly not failing God’s integrity test. “When he has tested me, I will come forth as gold” (Job 23:10 NIV), he sure did, what an example to us all!
