”And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. ” 2 Kings 6:17 NIV
Has God ever spoken to you through your car mirrors? How was the experience? ‘Objects in mirror are closer than they appear’ as engraved on some car mirrors could sometimes be akin to the voice of God. Not heeding the inscription could lead to avoidable safety incidents.
However in spiritual warfare, most times, ‘objects in mirror are farther than they appear.’ As seen in the case of the Syrian army besieging Elisha and his servant. There is something we may often let slip in that account, the Bible said “the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha ”. The emphasis here is on ‘all around Elisha’. So, while the Syrian army surrounded his city and his house; the heavenly host surrounded the man! Then extended outwards to cover the hills. The Syrian army actually appeared closer than they really are! Not only that, they likely stationed themselves in the midst of chariots of fire – schadenfreude!
The next time you feel surrounded, please do refrain from believing or behaving as if God is speaking to you through your car mirrors, as if the inscriptions on your car mirror is applicable in spiritual warfare. ”The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them” (Psalms 34:7 NIV) says David, a man surrounded by his enemies many more times than most. You might be surrounded, but God already has you enveloped, enclosed, encircled and encamped before the enemies showed up! The ‘for you-s‘ are much closer and more powerful than the ‘against you-s‘.
